PRIDE and LGBTQ+ Community: Love Always Wins
It's almost the end of pride month and it is important to throw light on the challenges LGBTQ community goes through, every day. Belonging from an LGBTQ community and accepting the fact about your sexuality is the toughest yet the proudest thing to achieve in life. Though apex court has come forward to give LGBTQ community a positive verdict and also their shares some of the basic rights, still most of them continue to live a gregarious lifestyle. The society we live in, it is still a taboo when it comes to accepting the LGBTQ community in our normal lives.
People still have stereotypical notions about it and carry a conventional mindset that only genders like males and females can exist. LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community movements are basically social movements for equal and basic rights for this community. In 1969, Stonewall Riot took place, which was a series of spontaneous violent demonstrations by members of the gay community in response to a police raid that began in early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in New York City. After that many similar riots and furor happened, demanding basic rights like social equality, marriage equality, liberation, etc. The earliest support for LGBTQ rights started in the early 20th century and they are still fighting for the same.
Love is love and love is for all. Wonder how it would feel when you love someone in particular but you are forced to live with someone else. It becomes tougher to accept oneself and one's sexuality when your own family and loved ones stand against it. It's is traumatic to pretend someone you are not, just for the sake of society. But with changing times, change in mentality can also be seen and it is evident as people are accepting and are getting vocal about it. Yet, there are taboos related to the LGBTQ community and still, some of us use these words like "chakka" as a slang. If we don't develop this behavior and respect in our own self how can we even think of changing things around us? It's high time we should understand and put a full stop to encourage this offensive behavior towards this community. They need our support and Sexual orientation and gender identity are integral aspects of our selves and should never lead to discrimination or abuse.
