5 Drug peddlers held with drug worth Rs. 1Crore.
The Shamli police got a major success on Wednesday night in the form of recovery of 'Doda-post' drugs estimated to be worth around Rs 1 crore. Five drug peddlers transporting the contraband were arrested from the Meerut-Karnal highway.
A Maruti Alto car and a truck were used for its transportation. The police said the arrested men could be members of a well organised gang. The arrested men, Kunwar Singh, Kala alias Mehboob, Tansir , Irfan and Omprakash, were produced before the media at a press conference in Shamli on Thursday. The drugs were being smuggled from Punjab to Uttar Pradesh and was believed to have been loaded in the truck from Udaipur in Rajasthan, said the police.
A police team raided a truck stationed outside a dhaba near Kerata village on the Meerut-Karnal highway and recovered more than 2000 kg toda post.
