Maoists torch dozen vehicles in Gadchiroli; PM Modi condemns act

Gadchiroli blast: An improvised explosive device (IED) blast was triggered on a police vehicle in the Maoist-affected district.
The blast took place at Lendhri pool around 6km from Kurkheda in north Gadchiroli. The blast was executed by naxals.
The incident took place early in the day when the state was getting ready to celebrate its foundation day, Maharashtra Divas.
The Naxals triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) to blow up the police vehicle on the Kurkheda-Korchi road in Gadchiroli when a team of the C-60 commandoes, an anti-Naxal unit, was patrolling the area. The Maoists were in the final stages of observing a week-long protest to mark the first anniversary of 40 of their members who were gunned down by security forces on April 22, 2018.
The targeted vehicles, mostly belonged to Amar Infrastructure Ltd., and where engaged in construction works for the Purada-Yerkad sector of National Highway 136 near Dadpur village.
The Maoists also put up banners and posters condemning the killings of their comrades last year, before setting ablaze two JCBs, 11 tipper, diesel and petrol tankers, rollers, generator vans and two local site offices before fleeing from the spot.
Gadchiroli voted in the first phase of national election on April 11.
On April 9, five people including a BJP legislator and four security personnel were injured in a Maoist-triggered IED blast in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district.
A Central Reserve Police Force jawan escorting a polling party was injured in an improvised explosive device blast in the Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district on April 10, a day before the constituency went to polls in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
On the day of polling too, Naxals triggered an IED blast near a booth in the district while voting was underway. However, no casualty was reported in the incident.
In 2009, Maoist rebels ambushed a police patrol in Maharashtra and killed 17 policemen.
