On Friday morning, May 3rd, 2019, a very severe cyclone called FANI hits the coastal areas of Odisha with approximately 180km wind speed after a week of high alert by the state and central government. Over 10,000 villages and 52 towns of Odisha is estimated to be damaged by FANI which is 1.5 metre height, said by an official. Reportedly more than a million of people are evacuated from their homes to safer camps.
The neighbouring states, Andra Pradesh and West Bengal were assumed to get affected by FANI are now in safe zone and now is expected to move towards Bangladesh. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Odisha Disaster Response Force (ODRF) along with other defence special forces are ready for the rescue operation aftermath of the cyclone. Day after the cyclone, the life in Odisha is stagnant, mobile network and electricity is down. The Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik and his government with the help of Special Forces are prioritizing in the medication of injured people and restoration of power supply.
