Last week,India has voted in support of Israel at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).The move came to deny observer status to ‘Shahed’ a Palestinian human rights organisation.India has changed the decade-old position under new state theory according to which India has maintained a position of identifying both Israel and Palestine separate and independent nation.

The vote took place on 6 June at the UN (ECOSOC) saw India,US, UK, Germany, France,Japan,Canada and South Korea voting in favour of Israel, while Saudi Arabia,China,Pakistan,Russia, and some others voted in favour of the Palestine body.

The proposal for giving ‘Shahed’ an observer status in the UN has been rejected by a 28-14 vote.
Maya Kadosh, deputy chief at the Israel embassy in India took to twitter for giving the news, “Thank you India for standing with @IsraelinUN and rejecting the request of terrorist organization “Shahed” for obtaining the status of an observer in #UN. Together we will continue to act against terrorist organizations that intend to harm.”Kadosh tweeted.

Kadosh told ThePrint that “This is the first time Israel had moved the proposal to reject the request made by ‘Shahed’ to grant it an observer status. This is a good sign… India was the first country to support us amongst the Asia group, so we are very happy,”
She asserted that ‘Shahed’ is reported to have links with
‘Hezbollah’ and ‘Palestinian Islamic Jihad’ that have been designated as terrorist organisations in 1997.

However, many see India’s move as a step of moving away from the two-state theory that maintains a neutral position in Israel Palestine issue.
Many European countries has declared ‘Hamas’ -the Palestinian Islamist group has been declared as a terrorist organisation.According to Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs ‘Shahed’ claims of being taking human rights issues but in fact is a
“terrorist organisation” operating under “Hamas terror organisation”.

Israel is planning to share some more details on the organisations and its reported links with other terrorist organisations with ECOSOC to assert their stand firmly.
