Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Raghubar Das, declared Jharkhand to be illuminated by LED by 30th September. It is planned to cover the streets of 32,000 streets of villages. CM Das launched the rural LED street light scheme at Dhaka village in Dumka district on Sunday.

“The dream of a developed state cannot be realised unless the development of villages is complete. This is why, the government has decided to develop the villages with funds allotted to the village panchayat under the 14th finance commission,” the CM said.

More than 29,000 LED lights will be installed to illuminate 4367 ditricts and villages. Along with this, the CM has also laid the foundationn for various other development projects. The total expenditure decided was 151 crores.

The installation and working of LED street lights would require electricity supply as well. Jharkhand is among those states who are experiencing electricty shortage curently. To this, the CM said, “To ensure 24x7 power supply, 117 new power grids and 217 power sub-stations are being constructed. A sub-station is also coming up in the panchayat. After completion of the project, which is expected by December end, the power scenario would improve largely.” However, to the fact of the location of installation of the lights, the decision has been left to the local Gram Sabha.
