Pregnancy is the term used to describe the period in which a fetus develops inside a woman's womb or uterus. Pregnancy usually lasts about 40 weeks, or just over 9 months, as measured from the last menstrual period to delivery.

Health care providers refer to three segments of pregnancy, called trimesters.

Types of pregnancy:

  • First Trimester
  • Second Trimester
  • Third Trimester

The First Trimester = 0 to 13 weeks

The Second Trimester = 14 to 26 weeks

The Third Trimester = 27 to 40 weeks

What causes Pregnancy?

For pregnancy to happen, sperm must meet up with an egg.

Pregnancy officially starts when a fertilized egg implants in the lining of the uterus.

It takes up to 2-3 weeks after sex for pregnancy to happen.

Symptoms:

  • Missed period.
  • Tender, swollen breasts.
  • Nausea with or without vomiting.
  • Increased urination.
  • Fatigue.

How do you know that you're pregnant?

Pregnancy tests work by detecting a certain level of human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) in your pee.

You can take a pregnancy test as soon as you've missed your period.

However, it's best to wait at least one week after you've missed your period to get the most accurate results.

Fact:

Pregnancy without sperm is impossible.

Without intercourse, you can get pregnant with the help of different fertility treatments and procedures

These include:

  • IVF
  • IUI

IVF:

In Vitro Fertilization

It is a process of fertilization where an egg is combined with sperm in vitro.

The process involves monitoring and stimulating a woman's ovulatory process, removing an ovum or ova from her ovaries, and letting sperm fertilize them in a culture medium in a laboratory.

IUI:

Intrauterine insemination

It is a type of artificial insemination

It is a procedure for treating infertility.

Sperm that have been washed and concentrated are placed directly in your uterus around the time your ovary releases one or more eggs to be fertilized.

Also, at-home insemination can be done
