Mental Health

I don’t know how many of you are aware of the terms such as mental health, mental sickness, and mental illness. The words may be different but the meaning of all three of them is the same. From the perspectives of positive psychology, mental health may include an individual's ability to enjoy life and to create a balance between life activities and efforts to cope up with a crisis both mentally and emotionally.  According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health is subjective to the self-actualization of one's intellectual and emotional potential, among others.

You may wonder everyone does not suffer from mental illness but believe me people suffer mental health issues more than people who suffer cancer, heart attacks, and diabetes. The mental health of an individual does not only affect one’s life but also things related to it like self-esteem, relationships, and lastly, the ability to function in day to day life. The emotional health of one person can have a terrible impact on one’s physical health too. According to data of the year 2020 mental health issues have been found among adults, but rapidly deteriorated among the youth, categorized as 12 to 17-year olds.

Mental health is commonly known as a positive attribute in one’s life until and unless he is not diagnosed with any mental health condition. 13% of youth who suffer from any kind of mental illness are also suffering from depression. You may wonder why? It is because when one’s mental health does not function properly. The positive thoughts turn into negative thoughts and people are confused about everything they do because they start doubting themselves. Mental health and stability are very important factors in a person's everyday life. The human brain develops many skills at an early age including social skills, behavioral skills, and one's way of thinking.

Learning how to interact with others and how to focus on certain subjects are essential lessons to learn at a young age. This starts from the time we can talk all the way to when we are so old that we can barely walk. However, there are people in society who have difficulties with these skills and behave differently. Mental illness consists of a wide range of conditions that affects a person's mood, thinking, and behavior. About 26% of people in the United States, ages 18 and older, have been diagnosed with some kind of mental disorder.
