Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday has tested positive for novel coronavirus infection. "On getting the initial symptoms of the corona, I got the test done and the report came back positive," the home minister said today via social media platform Twitter. He has been admitted to the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram for treatment, according to news agency ANI. "My health is fine, but on the advice of the doctors I am getting myself admitted into a hospital," he added."I request everyone who has come in contact with me over the last few days, please isolate and get yourselves tested," he said. Dr. Randeep Guleria is likely to visit Medanta Hospital (in Gurugram) to see Union Home Minister Amit Shah COVID19 treatment," news agency ANI tweeted. India witnessed the biggest jump in COVID-19 cases as over 57,000 had tested positive for novel coronavirus infection. With this, India's COVID-19 tally neared 17 lakh mark. Coronavirus claimed as many as 764 lives in the last 24 hours.
The death toll from the virus zoomed to 36,511. The fatality rate in the country was one of the lowest in the world, the health ministry said. The center announced a nationwide lockdown in the last week of March to curb the COVID-19 spread. Starting today, India entered the 'Unlock 3.0' phase to gradually restart the economic activities across the country. The night curfew which was applicable from 10 pm to 5 am were lifted. The gymnasiums are allowed to open their gates for enthusiasts from August 5. However, everyone needs to follow the COVID-19 guidelines and maintain social distancing norms. The lockdown restrictions in the containment zones were extended until the end of August. The central government allowed the states and union territories to hold Independence Day ceremony while following coronavirus norms. However, schools, colleges, and other educational institutions will remain closed until August 31. Further, metro services, cinema halls, and swimming pools, entertainment parks, bars, theatres, auditoriums, and other social gathering places will also remain shut.
