Railways Resume Partially Train Services From 12th May 2020, Tuesday | Coronavirus Lockdown

Train Services Resume From 12th May 2020

While the nation is going through the pandemic and following lockdown 3.0, the center has decided to resume train services gradually from Tuesday. The online bookings for the same will start at 4 pm from Monday i.e. 11 May. The order released from the railway ministry has assured 30 journeys-15 pairs of return trips which will depart from Delhi to other cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, and Chennai. The railways will first monitor these journeys and will thereafter start trains for other new routes as well. For now, these trains will run as special trains from New Delhi station to Dibrugarh, Agartala, Howrah, Patna, Bilaspur, Ranchi, Bhubaneshwar, Secunderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Madgaon, Mumbai Central, Ahmedabad and Jammu Tawi.

The passengers with only valid confirmed tickets will be allowed to enter the railway station. Strictest measures related to face covering and health will be taken into notice. Only passengers with their faces covered will be allowed to the station. There will screening before the departure and only asymptomatic passengers will be allowed to board the train and travel. In today’s order, Railways Minister Piyush Goyal had appealed to all states to permit the operation of migrant special trains so that the stranded people can reach home safely in the next coming days. He tweeted, “As per the directions of Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi Ji, Railways is fully geared up to run 300 Shramik Special trains every day at short notice since the last six days.”

There have been a number of cases where migrants have chosen to walk up to their home towns and there have been many such incidents where fatal accidents have taken place. Also, the states are now unable to feed the migrants because of the slipping off of revenues. In such a light, this decision has been seen quite relieving where strands can reach safely to their homes. The center has however started to ease the lockdown, which is due to lift on May 17, but interstate public transport and domestic and international flights are still grounded. In these special services that have been made available for the migrants and stranded people, social distancing has been seen as a priority and must be followed by all.
