After Goa, tourists can now cruise to Surat from Mumbai. The cruise services are expected to start on November 15. Cruise ship Mumbai Maiden, which will be operated by SSR Marine Services, is likely to set sail on her maiden voyage from Bandra-Worli Sealink that day. Initially, the service will be weekly with the ship departing Bandra-Worli Sealink every Thursday around 5 pm and arriving at Hazira in Surat on Friday around 9 am. The ship will depart Hazira the same evening around 5 pm and arrive at Bandra-Worli Sealink the next day at 9 am.
The company plans to charge Rs 3,000-5,000 for one passenger. Currently, there is a cruise service between Mumbai and Goa. The response has been good, according to Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT). In the last three years, Mumbai has managed to boost cruise tourism by developing the necessary infrastructure, MbPT said. According to MbPT data, 2.32 lakh tourists from Mumbai went on cruises in 2019, both domestic and international. According to an official, by 2021, Mumbai will have the first international cruise terminal. In 2017-18, a total of 46 cruise ships anchored in Mumbai. On board these ships were 56,000 tourists. In 2018-19, a total of 106 cruise ships, with 87,000 tourists on board, anchored in the city. This year so far, 255 cruise ships have anchored in the city with 2.32 lakh tourists travelling on them.
