Lawyer Prashant Bushan is held guilty for his tweet against the judiciary. The supreme court has asked him to pay a fine of Re 1 by 15 September or else he could end up in the jail for 3 months.
“Freedom of expression is there, but rights of others should also be respected,” the Supreme Court said. Adding to this, the judiciary bench made a very clear statement that “Ultimately we have considered the sane advice given by the attorney general to the court and to the contemnor.”
The Supreme Court had said during arguments that freedom of speech is not absolute. "You may do hundreds of good things, but that doesn't give you a license to do ten crimes," the court had said. To this, Prashant Bhusan has already tweeted with a picture saying "My lawyer & senior colleague Rajiv Dhavan contributed 1 Re immediately after the contempt judgment today which I gratefully accepted."
