More then 280 People got Rescued from Stranded Trains

Rescue personnel helped 290 essential workers, stranded onboard two trains near Masjid railway station, to safety on Wednesday. The trains were stranded in a water-logged stretch near the railway station.

Personnel from the railway Protection Force rescued 231 from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus(CSMT)-Karjat train and National Disaster Response Force(NDRF) personnel helped the 39 passengers stuck on board a Titwala CSMT train.

Wednesday's torrential downpour forced the West Railway(WR) to suspend its special trains between Churchgate and Mumbai Central. Central Railway (CR) also suspended its service for essential workers between CSMT and Vashi on the harbor line and between CSMT and Thane on the mainline.

Tree branches that fell due to guts also hindered movement along the tracks. A senior CR official said that the train service beyond Thane continued to operate during the cloudburst.

Several women commuters had also refused to disembark from the train."Is it safe to step into stormwater in the age of coronavirus," asked one lady, who was among 14 women who have decided to stay on the train? All the passengers on board the CSMT-karjat were taken to safety.

Central Railway chief public relations officer, Shivaji Sutar said the rescue operation ended at 10 pm.
