Islam, one of the two largest religion in the world, originated from the middle east and spread all around the world. Prophet Mohammad, the messenger of Allah, the one who brought islam to the world spreading the teachings of Allah. Islam teaches that there is one God - “Allah” and Mohammad is the messenger of Allah. The “Quran”, considered as the verbatim of Allah which is the primary scripture of Islam.
Quran, revealed in sections to the prophet, a guide to live life on the path of Allah. The first ever revelation of Quran to Prophet Mohammad happened in the holy month of Ramadan. Which is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. The holiest month and a month of prayers and fasting. The entire month of Ramadan, observed with extensive prayers, Namaaz or Salat, one of the five pillars of Islam. Followed by Quran recitations and practicing good deeds and charity.
Muslims, during the month of Ramadan, fast, that is refrain themselves from food, drinking liquids , smoking and engaging into sexual activities. They also desist themselves from sinful behaviour, such as foul speech and violence. Ramadan is the month to purify body and souls. Muslims fast from “Fajr”(dawn) to “Magrib”(Sunset). The pre-dawn meal is referred to as “Suhoor’ or “Sihori” and the post-sunset meal is referred to as “Iftaar”.

The first revelation of “Quran” to Prophet Mohammad happened on one of the odd nights of the month Known as the “Laytlat-ul-Qdr”, the night of powers. Muslims commemorate this night by offering Salat for the entire night till the “Fajr”. Extensive prayers and recitations take place on this night. Muslims believe that offering salat in this night would protect them from going to the “Jahannum”(Hell) and open the gates of “Jannat” for them.
Important Dates:
“Laylat-Ul-Qadr” is believed to have occurred on an odd-numbered night of the last ten days of the month.The Dawoodi Bohras, consider the 23rd of Ramadan as “Laylat-Ul-Qadr”.
“Eid-Ul-Fitr” is the first day of the proceeding month of “Shawwal”. This day marks as the successful end to the month of fasting . This festive day, celebrated by muslims for resuming their daily routines.
