New Delhi: The Congress leader Sheila Dikshit has died today of a cardiac arrest at a hospital. She was the longest-serving chief minister of Delhi. She was admitted to the hospital a few days earlier. The hospital said in a statement despite all resuscitative efforts, Sheila Dikshit died after a cardiac arrest.

"A multi-disciplinary team of doctors, led by Dr. Ashok Seth, Chairman, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, carried out the advanced resuscitative measures. Her condition stabilized temporarily. However, she had another cardiac arrest and despite all the resuscitative efforts, passed away at 3:55 pm on 20th of July 2019," Fortis said in a statement.
Sheila Dikshit was currently serving as the Delhi Congress chief, she took the position in January this year ahead of this year elections. For this year elections, she was contesting against the BJP’s Manoj Tiwari and get lost to him.
The Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted an emotional tweet "I'm devastated to hear about the passing away of Sheila Dikshit Ji, a beloved daughter of the Congress Party, with whom I shared a close personal bond. My condolences to her family & the citizens of Delhi, whom she served selflessly as a 3 term CM, in this time of great grief," he tweeted.
PM Modi also tweeted "Blessed with a warm and affable personality, she made a noteworthy contribution to Delhi's development. Condolences to her family and supporters. Om Shanti,"
President Ram Nath also has its condolences on twitter "Her term in office was a period of momentous transformation for the capital for which she will be remembered. Condolences to her family and associates,"
She was the Delhi Chief Minister for three consecutive periods before eventually succeeded by the AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal.
Kejriwal also tweeted saying It is a huge loss for Delhi and her contribution will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to her family members. May her soul rest in peace," he said.
The Veteran was born in Punjab and during her time she was credited with many people-oriented programs.
