Curriculum may refer to all different courses of study that are taught in school, colleges and other educational institutions. Essentially it is the basis of what the school aspire to teach the students, in short, their objectives. In recent times it has been observed that rigidity in the curriculum has often led to stagnation in the ideas of the vibrant minds. Only academics and no innovative vision and ideas have led to inefficiency and unproductivity in children. As the saying goes” All work and no play make Jack a dull boy”, this can also apply to students who are only engrossed to their academic learning, going after credit marks and evaluation that the knowledge buds get subsided. It is psychologically proven that brainstorming into different ideas has resulted in various recreational activities. Just like how a simple courier packet can be reused and made into a beautiful hand file, easy to carry and environmental friendly. In the same way, brainstorming ideas into the regular curriculum has the most significant impact when it comes to effective learning. Brainstorming can be infused into the curriculum in various ways. Listed below are some that can be used to make brainstorming a lively and enriching experience.

  • As a pedagogical activity- Brainstorming can be used in the curriculum by the teachers by letting the student form groups and delve themselves into some deeper studies. For example, what are the alternative uses of plastics which are environment-friendly
  • As a psychological enhancement- Brainstormi9ng can also be infused into the curriculum by getting the students to engage in some creative learning. For example, how to read comprehension in a short span of time knowing the smart reading technique
  • Reverse brainstorming- Reverse brainstorming may refer to as the technique of thinking reverse any topic which is assigned to the students. For example, is it the sun that revolves around the sun or the stars that revolve. This can be infused into the curriculum by letting the students introspect, is it because they haven’t read so the result is not satisfactory or is it because they haven’t understood whatever is taught.
  • Curiosity as an activity- the world around us is full of facts, some known and some not known till now. This can be used in the curriculum by the teachers where they would recite about various facts and students out of curiosity will brainstorm into it for better knowledge.
  • Group discussion- this can be done while learning when the teachers would assign a topic to the students, where they would form groups and brainstorm into the topics assigned.
  • Reflection of ideas- this can be infused into the curriculum where the teachers would review and reflect their opinion about the ideas put forwarded by the students. This would make the students brainstorm more into some path-breaking ideas that will ultimately enhance their learning and thinking capacity.
  • Mixed groups- this can be helpful when topics have been assign to a group of diverse minds. Here the students will have different ideas and different perspective of their own. This brainstorming can enhance cooperative learning in one way or the other.
  • Imaginative power- Brainstorming can be used as a tool of creativity and imagination. Teachers can ask the students to imagine about a certain topic and provide the end results. This would lead to different ideas and creativity.
  • Use of icebreakers-To brainstorm about the icebreakers in the class would help the students to actively participate in the learning process. This would also give rise to imagination and curiosity at the same time.
