According to the sources, BJP lawmaker Om Birla is set to be next Lok Sabha Speaker whose candidature is also accepted by the government. Birla has been two-time lawmaker from Rajasthan’s Kota is considered to be close to party chief and home minister Amit Shah. The party has so far not given any official statement from their end but the party’s choice has been confirmed by the wife of Om Birla, Mrs. Amita Birla.
The 56-year-old has been associated with the BJP youth wing and has also been an in charge of the organizational restructure in Rajasthan in 2018. The 17th Lok Sabha was conducted yesterday and the lawmakers took oath which brought up speculations over the Speaker’s post. The Last Lok Sabha Speaker’s position holder Sumitra Mahajan did not fit the age bar this time and thus Om Birla’s name came up. Yesterday, BJP lawmaker Virendra Kumar was named as pro term Speaker. After sworn in by Ram Nath, he administered oath to new members. The oath ceremony is expected to continue today also for the number of members is 542.
However, Om Birla has not yet confirmed the news as he was seen cautious to make any statement in regard of the expected position. He told ANI, “I have no information, I had just went to meet the Working President as “karyakarta.” He said this while leaving from JP Nadda’s home who has been named as the party’s Working President last night.
