Sri Lanka handed tournament favorites England a shock defeat by 20 runs in a low scoring thriller at Headingley, leed on Friday. It was handed to Sri Lanka by their most experienced man Lasith Malinga who was also the man of the match. After winning the toss and electing to bat Sri Lanka stunned the host by defeating them by 20 runs.
Sri Lanka managed to score 232/9 in 50 overs. It seemed like an easy total for the host to win. but after the magical spell of Lasith Malinga who get out of openers cheaply. It was the day of veteran Angelo Mathews who scored important 85 runs that helped them to win over England. The victory takes Sri Lanka on the fifth spot with six points from six matches, while England remained on the third spot with eight points. Excellent performance Sri Lanka to beat England.
