After an era of 4G widespread, the technology of high speed mobile internet is shifting to a ten times speedier network. 5G, with its cutting-edge technology moving towards a multitude higher speed of mobile internet ranging to as high as 1 Gbps. This high speed network will change the way you look at internet, browsing and streaming. 5G reportedly was supposed to be in the market by the mid of 2020. But here we are in 2019, holding the the first 5G phone. 5G network has not just been the most awaited step in technology, but the most controversial one as well.

Lots of controversies, including geopolitical, environmental and financial, have been a hindrance to this edge-cutting technology. American strategical specialists have been pleading other countries to not adapt the Chinese company Huawei’s 5G equipments. Huawei for long has be alleged to have compromising relationship with the Chinese Government in breeching privacy and security. Meanwhile, different telecom companies have been struggling to strategically bring up their 5G networks. AT&T and Verizon, two of the big networks in the US have launched their 5G networks in testing. AT&T sees 5G as transition towards high peed internet hence named it as 5G Evolution. 5G networks require certain high end technology and extreme investents, including stronger fibre optic backbones, broader spectrums and higher frequency of distribution towers hence demanding huge financial gamble.

Now as mentioned that this network will require new broader spectrums, hurdling this are the meteorologists who have been constantly claiming that the increase in the spectrum would damage the delicate instruments used to detect the changes in the atmosphere. The introduction to 5G might impair the ability to detect major storms and changes in the atmosphere, hence impacting the forecasts. Meteriologist Tony McNally from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts says :

“The way 5G is being introduced could seriously compromise our ability to forecast major storms,In the end it could make the difference between life and death. We are very concerned about this.”

Despite all the controversies revolving around the 5G technology roll out, the cutting edge technology stands strong and is said to frame to the future of high speed mobile internet.
