Dutch Delight: Liverpool Virgil Van Dijk and Arsenals Vivianee Miedema win PFA Player of the Year Award

Double delight for Dutch football supporters, Dutch duo Virgil van Dijk and Vivianne Miedema have won this year the Professional Footballers Association Player of the year awards.

Arsenal forward prodigy Miedema, 22 beats the likes of Nikita Parris, Keira Walsh, Steph Houghton, Erin Cuthbert, and Ji So-Yun.

While Liverpool defender beating the likes of Mohamed Salah, Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Sergio Aguero, Sadio Mane and Eden Hazard for PFA this season.

Man City young forward Sterling was so close to winning PFA but his efforts make sure he wins this year EPL 2018-19 Young Player of the Year. Man City does also provide winners for other awards too with three lions female football team forward Georgia Stanway winning the woman’s young player award and the three lions female football team captain claiming PFA Special Achievement Award.

Van Dijk beats the former and fellow teammate Mohamed Salah who won the award in his debuting season 2017-18 for Liverpool and most notably is the first defender to conquer such laurel since John Terry, the Chelsea centre-back won back in 2004-05.

The Dutch centre-back joined Liverpool in a record-breaking fee for a defender i.e. £75 million from Southampton in January 2018. The 27-year old defender has been from then in ever so commanding position in the Liverpool back four with currently going neck to neck with the Champions Man City for this year domestic title and also facing Barcelona in UCL semi-finals.

On the counter side, Arsenal forward Vivianne Miedema leading Gunners to their first title since 2012 after netting ball 22 times giving us a double Dutch Delight. The North London based club was crowned Champions after a thumping 4-0 win to Brighton on Sunday.

Miedema was also on the cusp of winning the Young Player of the Year beating just off by the Manchester City forward Georgia Stanway.

Miedema said: "I'm obviously really proud to represent my team here. I think we've had an amazing year, especially with winning the league today."
