After the victory of the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections in India, this is the first Friday in the new government which films are coming to a theatre near you.
1. Bollywood
A] PM Narendra Modi
The Ssandip Singh produced a biopic on our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will be releasing this week. The biopic directed by Omung Kumar and starring Vivek Oberoi as Narendra Modi faced legal tussles before its release. The Election Commission's stay on the release of the film, Complaints by the NSUI and the recent meme controversy involving Vivek Oberoi has garnered the film a lot of publicity. Since the BJP has also won the 2019 Elections the film is expected to generate more moolah at the box office.
B] India's Most Wanted
Director Rajkumar Gupta's flick which is reportedly based on Yasin Bhatkal's capture by our Indian Agencies has a sort of mixed buzz mainly due to Arjun Kapoor being the lead of this film. Though it's opening is projected to be more than the Modi biopic due to the involvement of Fox but at the end of the day, it will be strongly dependent on word of mouth.
2. Hollywood
A] Aladdin
The Guy Ritchie directorial which stars Will Smith as the genie is expected to open better than the Bollywood releases due to Will Smith's star power and the popularity of Aladdin's story in India. After the Jungle book, Disney hopes that this remake will also get the same amount of warm reception which it expects in India.
Other releases include Long Shot and Sony's horror superhero flick Brightburn which is written by James Gunn. Both films have a sort of minimal buzz in India and would open low at the box office
3. Tamil
Neeya 2 is the sole major release in Tamil this week. The film which is believed to be a sequel to the 1979 hit Neeya which was a remake of the Sunil Dutt-Reena Roy starrer Nagin. It stars Jai, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar, Raai Laxmi, and Catherine Tresa in lead roles and is expected to open low at the box office.
4. Telugu
Sita starring Bellamkonda Srinivas and Kajal Aggarwal is the sole big Telugu release this week. The film directed by noted filmmaker Teja is seen as the director's version of the Ramayana. The film is expected to take an average opening at the box office.
