Education is the most powerful tool human kind can ever have. It has the power to make world a proper and peaceful place to live in. Father of nation Mahatma Gandhi once told that education is an all-round development of body, mind and spirit. Often we come across the notion of education being judged on the basis of number of marks one gets in his or her academics. Merit lies in the amount of scores one manage to achieve while in school or colleges. This in recent times cannot be considered fully as variety of factors are there to judge one’s success or failures. Below discussed are some of the myths around education and success.
- Being merituous is all about marks- Often we tend to judge a child on the amount of marks he scored in his or her academics. More marks mean merituous is a highly conceived nation. This entire thought is a myth. Being merituous also means carrying one’s personality smartly also being confident as well as creative. There are many people who carries themselves with lots of confidence and are rarely being asked about their marks in school.
- Teachers being solely responsible for learning- Teachers are the ones who build the foundation of a child’s career. But it will be unfair if we solely held them responsible.
In today’s time, teachers are very much packed up with lot many activities happening around the school. Not only the teaching part but also the administration part is being systematized by the teachers. So, it is not the sole responsibility of the teachers to teach and adapt but also the parents, students, school administration and environment as a whole.
- Schools aren’t responsible for the change in behavior- Most people tend to believe that schools aren’t responsible for the change in behavior of a child. In fact, this can never be considered entirely. The environment of a school can largely impact the psychology of a student in the learning process.
- Credentials don’t matter- Credentials of a teacher matter a lot when it comes to subject matter teaching. A skillful teacher is of great help when it comes to make student expertise of different subjects of the academics. The ones who have practical knowledge of the subjects are in good position of making their children learn, grow and adapt.
- Smaller class increases learning- It seems to be a common notion that compact classes increase chances of students to learn and explore more properly. As it is believed there is more of one to one interaction and attention. However, the evidence shows that there isn’t a large positive impact until a class size is reduced to under 20 or 10 students which is not possible all the time.
- Success is what everyone else says it is- Success is not to be defined in terms of what others has to say about it. Success cannot be pre-determined in most of the times. The notion of success varies with each person and it depends how one sees and perceive it. If one really wants to be successful, one need to give up other people’s version of success and start defining their own and achieve it.
- You are successful only when you are educated- No doubt the linkage between education and success cannot be completely denied, yet it will not be proper to define education and success on the same line. There are numerous examples where without being much educative about different things people led a successful life. As for them success has a different meaning which they define.
