The 72nd edition of the French Riviera’s premiere film festival returned this year with the biggest lineup. The Cannes Film Festival is considered to be the magnum opus of movie awards. They’re not only a multibillionaire franchise but a home to the finest works in cinematic history. Moreover, Its The Louvre of cinemas, paying homage to the underdogs. If you call yourself a movie fanatic, then there’s no way you would miss this Magnifique cœur de la cinema – Cannes. This year like every other year gave the viewers the most privileged sight of celebrities and movies. Cannes 2019 had many highlights including the appearance of Quentin Tarantino with his new period flick “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood”.
He came along with the most prestigious cast – Brad Pitt, Leonardo Di Caprio, Margot Robbie. Elton John himself made an appearance for his upcoming biopic Rocketman. Atlantique made the acclaimed director Mati Diop the first black woman to participate in the main competition at Cannes. Along with four women directors pining after the prize after Cate Blanchett’s protest against less representation. Terrence Malick marked his return with A Hidden Life. However, Pedro Almodóvar, Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas- the most celebrated trio returned with Pain and Glory.
French filmmaker Céline Sciamma entered with Portrait of a Lady on Fire. Furthermore, this year also saw Bollywood representation with Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Kangana Ranaut gracing the carpet.
