The list of India’s growing list of injury concerns in the World Cup stays to lengthen with Vijay Shankar being next after Shikhar Dhawan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Vijay Shankar becomes the latest player to suffer an injury. During Wednesday’s net session, he was hit strong on the toes by a Yorker from Bumrah and was in deep pain soon after the delivery. The sourced have confirmed that it was only a scare and nothing serious. A team source told PTI, “Yes, Vijay was in pain but it has subsided by the evening. Hopefully, there’s nothing scary.” Already, Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of World Cup due to his thumb injury whereas Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been given rest for at least two matches.

Vijay Shankar, the all rounder gave in 15 runs and took two crucial wickets including that of Pakistani captain Sarfaraz Ahmed that gave a pitch in to India’s 89 run victory over Pakistan. Shankar was seen a floater in India’s middle order. However, his debut in world cup match took place against arch rivals Pakistan. To add on to Shankar’s records, he took his wicket on his first delivery in his first world cup match.

The team management is however seen to be nervous that too after Dhawan being ruled out of the tournament due to thumb fracture and Bhuvneshwar resting with a hamstring stretch. For the opener’s position, Rishabh Pant is seen to be replacing Dhawan. Thus, matches ahead will see some major replacements in the playing XI.
