Hugh Jackman dons the iconic yellow Wolverine costume from the X-Men comics in this new image that gives fans an idea of what could have been should the films have ever featured the actor wearing the classic suit.

While Hugh Jackman’s second outing as the iconic X-Men in The Wolverine featured the reveal of the classic yellow costume from the comics in a deleted scene, fans never got a chance to see Hugh Jackman don the iconic suit.

Seventeen years of playing the character in the X-Men film franchise established by Bryan Singer, Hugh Jackman exited the role of the mutant clawed hero with the critically-acclaimed film Logan in 2017 but we could be seeing a new and possibly younger actor play Wolverine after Hugh Jackman sooner than expected.

Veteran X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner previously dished on passing the baton to Kevin Feige at Marvel Studios earlier this year, confirming the visionary producer is indeed searching for a new actor to play the next Wolverine after Hugh Jackman, and admitting the role should go to a younger actor due to the physicality required to play the iconic mutant superhero. Rumors have swirled that Disney may be considering an X-Men series for the upcoming streaming service Disney+ which is set to launch by the end of the year.

The X-Men film saga continues this summer with Dark Phoenix which will be the final installment of the current film series.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is directed by Simon Kinberg and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.

“In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.”

The film is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the X-Men franchise as we learn it.
