Summer is here, This is actually the peak time when summer and sun hit us hard.  We do have prior knowledge of several chemical constituents present in the sunscreen lotions that save us from getting tanned due to the scorching sun. Chemicals like, avobenzone, oxybenzone, octocrylene, and ecamsule are the constituents of the lotion we use.

We do have a consciousness that, these chemicals are absorbed readily into the bloodstream by our body and stay for long hours. This is definitely unusual for our normal body functioning that a chemical flows along with the bloodstream and stays longer than usual. But also at the same time, there could not be many conclusions about what long term disease or illness it can give rise to.

In a recent study, it has been found out that some of the chemicals are absorbed by our body at dangerous levels. This calls for swapping of your chemical products, which is swapping them with mineral based lotion.

According to Dr Janiene Luke Campbell, in this environment where there exists a persistent amount of matter and polluted gases, 1 in 5 people are ta the risk of skin cancers at some point their lives. Dr Campbell is a board-certified dermatologist and associate professor in the department of dermatology at the Loma Linda University of medical centre.

Campbell in an interview to a healthcare website said, “We always have to weigh the risks and benefits, and while we currently do not know whether sunscreen components absorbed through the skin [are] harmful, we do know that sunscreens are very effective in preventing skin cancers”.

Hence as per the suggestion of many dermatologists as well as the American Academy of Dermatology, there has been this strong recommendation of using mineral based sunscreen lotions. These contain titanium dioxide and zinc oxide which sit on skin top and reflects the sun rays. Water resistant with a higher than 30 SPF is recommended too.

These are the 5 recommended alternatives:
